The Summer University
30 international volunteers, 4 terrific trainers, 3 training modules and a phenomenal Finnish cook

The Summer University seminar brought together volunteers from all over Europe, from Serbia to Finland, Italy to Scotland, working on diverse topics within the themes of Project Management, Effective Communication and Networking as part of a week long capacity building seminar.

IVS was very proud to host the event in Edinburgh as it gave us the opportunity to meet so many different representatives from branches of SCI who we don't often get the chance to meet, and to get to know our local organisations better including Youth Action for Peace, NIDOS, Challenges Worldwide and the British Council who all attended our networking evening.

The participants worked hard all week planning projects, writing budgetsm designing P.R. campaigns and looking at new ways to recruit motivated volunteers to their organisationsm but it wasn't all hard work. They did have time to try some traditional Scottish delights including haggis (which they all loved), a windy climb up Arthur's Seat and a fantastic ceilidh. I've never seen so many smiley faces and fantastic dancing. Many of the international volunteers who had never been to a ceilidh before were desperate to go to their next before leaving Scotland!

Thanks to all the volunteers who helped with the planning of this event, and especially to everyone who came along to the ceilidh on the final Friday night and made it such an enjoyable and energetic evening. We hope to see you back in Scotland again!
